Farewell my friend...
It is with immense sadness that we bid farewell to the one that made Team Jose Ole what it is. Thomas Blaine passed away Saturday April 11, 2009 and left a huge hole where once a man stood.
Thom founded the José Olé cycling team as a way to expose recreational riders to racing. It didn't take long for that first four-man team to grow to 12 members that competed not only in road criteriums but time trials, 12-hour X-C events and even triathlons.
Thom took as much pride in wins by team members as if they were his own. His joy was to just be involved in the growth and success of those around him and his help and encouragement was NEVER limited to our own team. His voice could always be heard rooting racers on from and helping in the feed zone regardless of team affiliation. That's just the way he was.
His gift of encouragement has been spread toward many a rider. Even when his results weren't what he had hoped, it was ALWAYS about the others: "How did you do?" "How can you do better?" "What can I do to help?"
His mentoring, coaching, resourcefulness and personality made him truly unique. Those of us whose lives he has touched are better off because of it and he will be sorely missed.
Ben
Team José Olé wishes to thank our 2009 sponsors. Without your generosity
and vision, our successes would not be possible.
